FPU

Short for "Floating Point Unit."

FPUs are an expansion of ALUs as they can deal with real numbers, such as fractions.

When a CPU with ALU cannot figure out an arithmetic operation, usually division, or multiplication of numbers with decimals it is sent to the FPU to complete the flaoting-point expression.

ALU and FPU are integrated into the CPU or GPU now.
