SESAC

The Society of European Stage Authors & Composers (SESAC) is one of three performance rights organizations (PRO) in America, along with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI). It is also the smallest but fastest growing of the three organizations.

It collects licence fees on behalf of its members, songwriters, composers and music publishers from public users of the copyrighted music and distributes the money as royalties to these members.

While ASCAP and BMI are not for profit organizations, SESAC retains some of the performance royalty income for profit. It also differs from the other PROs in that open membership is not offered, approval is required to join.
