Disk Utility


Apple's Disk Utility is the program used on Macs to perform all disk-related tasks.

DU can create, convert and compress disk images and has encryption capabilities.

Additionally, the Utility can read and burn .dmg and .cdr, Mac-compatible image and executable files.

The service can mount, unmount, eject disks, notably hard drives and disk images.

Finally, the powerful tool can verify and repair disks, erase disks, create new partitions on drives, verify permissions, restore ASR, and "live partition," adding or resizing current partitions without deleting them first.
