JPEG

JPEG stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group," the group that developed the image format.

Unlike PNG, JPEGs are not lossless image formats and can involve extreme compression depending on the level the user saves it at.

JPEG can support up to a maximum image size of 65535×65535, about 10 times higher resolution then most current high-end consumer cameras produce.

Unlike GIF, a JPEG has no color restrictions and does not support animation.

At its highest compression, JPEG can compress file size (with extremely noticeable artifacts) at 144:1 while at its lowest compression (comparable quality to PNG) size compression is 2.6:1.

Image files have an extension of .JPG, .JIF or .JPEG
